Last Monday, on the 15th October 2018, I went to the “Theater an der Parkaue” to watch the play “1210 km – the space between us” with my class. The play was about problems and conflicts in Europe and in our society these days, but also about different nationalities and cultures. It was performed by students from Berlin and Glasgow.

The play didn’t have a typical structure like a lot of other plays have. There wasn’t a clear beginning or end. There were just some scenes and pieces that were related to the topic and thrown together. But I think that all of these scenes were metaphors for certain aspects.

For example, there was a moment, when the audience got biscuits. Every spectator could decide on his/ her own if she wanted to share the biscuit with his/ her neighbour or not. That scene was all about sharing and receiving. You should share happiness with people who are important to you. And you should remember: If you do good things, there will befall good things to you.

Another scene that I liked was at the beginning, when the actors came on stage and put their shoes on. In my opinion it all took a little bit too long, but it still was an interesting way to start off the play. At first you couldn’t know what was expecting you, but when the play went on, it got clearer. I think this scene showed that in some way we are all the same. Everyone of us wakes up in the morning. We all get ready for school or work, and we all put our shoes on at one point of the day, no matter what nationality we belong to. You shouldn’t judge people by their looks or origins. Never judge a book by its cover! This motto was also supported by the following scene, when the actors introduced themselves and their partners, so we could see which people were behind all these pairs of shoes.

So, to sum up my ideas and my opinion: the play had a great message, and it was nice to watch. The actors did an excellent job, and I can recommend this play to everyone!
